By now you should have completed your application form, received your Letter of Offer and I-20 to apply for your visa. We have outlined the steps to follow so you can organize and prioritize your pre-departure plans. If you have further questions please contact us, we are here to help.
Pre-Arrival Steps to Success
Have you booked your accommodations? It is extremely important that you submit your housing contract to our Student Services Officer as soon as possible if you plan to live on-campus (required for undergraduate students) during your studies with Navitas at UMass Dartmouth. Please do not wait until your visa is approved to think about your accommodation arrangements, as it can be difficult to secure rooms on campus or apartments off-campus, if you wait until the last minute. The last thing you want is to arrive without a place to stay. Please ensure that you have booked a hotel, in case you are arriving before orientation.
Have you submitted your health forms with complete immunization records? All students attending school in Massachusetts must be in compliance with the state’s immunization requirements prior to enrollment, with documented immunization history for Measles, Mumps, & Rubella (MMR), Tetanus, Diptheria and Pertussis (TDAP), Hepatitis B, Varicella (Chicken Pox), and Meningitis, and students from countries of high risk must show results for a Tuberculosis IGRA blood test. It is important that you visit your health care provider and complete any of the immunizations/ tests that you don’t already have, and submit a copy of the UMass Dartmouth Health Forms along with your immunization history, at least 4 weeks prior to enrollment.
Have you received your visa? Please remember to notify our staff as soon as your visa has been approved, so that we can move forward with the registration and enrollment process in a timely manner and prepare for your arrival to campus.
Have you cleared your conditions? This doesn’t apply to everyone so double check your Letter of Offer to confirm if you have any conditions to clear. If you submitted photocopies of your transcripts, degree certificate, bank statements, affidavit of support and/or English score, you must mail in the originals as soon as your visa is approved, as you cannot be enrolled in classes without original documents on file.
Have you booked your flights? Most students will fly into Boston Logan International Airport, which is approximately one hour from the UMass Dartmouth campus. It is important that you book your flights to arrive on the designated check-in date, allowing yourself time to arrive during our scheduled check in hours, to ensure that our staff will be available to meet you on arrival and help you check in to your residence hall. Please note that students arriving outside of the designated check-in hours on the move-in date will need to make hotel arrangements until they are able to check in to the university residence halls. Early check-ins cannot be arranged.
Have you confirmed your airport pickup? If you will need airport pickup services upon arrival to Boston Logan Airport, please complete the Arrival Confirmation Form as soon as you have booked your flights. The friendly drivers from Austin Limos will pick you up just outside the terminal and bring you directly to meet our staff on campus, or to your hotel if arriving early/late in the evening. Even if you are not requesting an airport pickup, please be sure to provide us with a copy of your flight/travel itinerary so we know when to expect your arrival on campus.
Have you paid your initial invoice to initiate enrollment in courses? All students should pay their initial invoice within 14 days of receiving their visa, at least two weeks prior to arrival, or before orientation. It is important that we receive payment at least two weeks prior to your enrollment, so that we can secure your place in the program and begin the registration process. Payment in advance is needed in order to prevent delays in registration, as we cannot enroll students until full payment has been received. If your visa appointment is less than two weeks from your predicted arrival date, please contact our office to make individual arrangements. Have you confirmed the orientation dates and class start times for the upcoming semester? It is necessary that you join us at Orientation to develop friendships while receiving important information about Navitas and UMass Dartmouth. It is important that you plan your travels accordingly to arrive in time for orientation. Students who are unable to attend the scheduled orientation sessions may be required to defer to a later semester.
Check in with the Navitas staff upon arrival to UMass Dartmouth. It is important that you check in with our staff once you arrive to campus, so that we can finalize your enrollment and registration details for the semester. If you arrive to Dartmouth before the designated check-in date, please send us an email and we can let you know when and where to meet us, as we will be busy preparing for orientation and may not be available for walk-in appointments on campus in the days leading up to Orientation.
